Researchers collected detailed information on weight, height, measure three and two of the women before the start. The researchers also considered the confounding results can occur like not get enough sleep, diet and physical activity.
The researchers conducted observations of the women participating in the experiment in about 4.7 years.
After analyzing the data, they have identified a correlation between the level of artificial light exposure and health outcomes of the participants.
Results showed that women who sleep in the environment as much artificial light, the body mass index (BMI) and percentage waist / hips higher. Not only that, her sleep time shorter and physical activity as well as food quality is also significantly lower.
In particular, women in the room turn on the television or lights 5kg or increased risk than women who sleep in environments without light. BMI increased the risk by 10% higher than 18% of them. Besides, they are also at risk for overweight or obesity is higher respectively 22% and 33%.
The study may still have weaknesses because sleeping in a room with artificial lighting is due to the participation of women self-reported and may be inaccurate.
But the research results is still a solid evidence shows that you should not turn on the lights or TV when sleeping.
Keeping the bedroom absolutely no artificial light is very difficult when you live in an environment with too many electronic devices or electric lights.
